Autism Spectrum Disorders
Autism awareness has come a long way. For example we know today that autistic children's IQ is above average. We also understand that mental problems of all sorts are a result from nutritional and/or chemical deficiencies or imbalances of the brain.
What we look at closely is the role of allergies in autism. With that approach comes an awareness of genetic factors like SNPs (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms). MTHFR is such a SNP. MTHFR is a gene that encodes an enzyme which activates Folic Acid, also known as Vitamin B9. It is believed that up to 90% of autistic children carry this one SNP. There are many others. This is why we check all essential nutrients, such as Vitamins, Minerals, Amino Acids, Fats etc. for allergic or just sensitivity dispositions. Essential nutrients are necessary to make the required enzymes and neurotransmitters that the Brain and Central Nervous System use to process information and cell signal responses. But if there is an allergic response to a nutrient, then the enzymes and neurotransmitters may be incomplete. This causes malfunctions throughout the Central Nervous System which can result in abnormal behavior; Autism, ADD/ADHD, bipolar and other disorders.
